Michelle Bergh of Stillwater, Miss Minnesota Preteen Sweetheart 2011, returned recently from Miami Beach, Fla., where she was crowned Miss Preteen National Sweetheart 2012 at the Colony Theater.
Along with the title and crown, Bergh also won a college scholarship and other prizes. Contestants are judged on academics, school and community involvement, interviews, on-stage questions, personal expression and formal wear.
Bergh also won their optional national speech competition with a speech about breast cancer and the Susan G. Komen Foundation. She participated in a week packed with competitions, interviews, photo shoots, shows and other activities.
As Miss Preteen National Sweetheart, Bergh will dedicate her time and service to various non-profit organizations partnered with the America's National Teenager Scholarship Organization (ANTSO) such as the Boys and Girls Club of America, the Ocean Conservancy, Mercy Ministries and the Children's Aid Society.
Bergh has done volunteer work with many other organizations, particularly Polar Bears International and the Susan G. Komen Foundation. Bergh began having lemonade stands for Polar Bears International when she was 8. When she was 9, she organized and put on a children's talent show fundraiser, silent auction, live auction and a food drive for the benefit of Polar Bears International, Feline Rescue and St. Paul's The Neighborhood House food shelf.
Bergh organized teams of fund raisers for the Susan G. Komen MN Foundation and was honored to be named to their Mall of America 'Pink Honor Roll', which recognizes their top 60 fund raisers out of more than 50,000.
Bergh is a sixth-grader at Lily Lake Elementary. She enjoys singing, acting, swimming and horseback riding. She hopes to one day become the head veterinarian at the Minnesota Zoo or a national TV anchorwoman.
As the longest running scholarship organization for teenagers, ANTSO recently celebrated its 41 anniversary and has awarded more than $102 million in scholarships since its creation.
